Molly is a good friend of mine who, like many mommies, are in over their heads with balancing work and family life. “I love to shop, I just have no time to do it. And truthfully, I’m not sure what I really even need anymore.” -Molly
Now the”Working Mom” wardrobe is what I know best these days since I am currently living that blissful life right now. There are days when I get home from work so late that my kids enjoy a lovely meal of milk and cereal as I attempt to pick up the mess I left as I ran out the door that morning. I’m just saying I feel like my job is never done with children, or dishes for that matter, and keeping up my style often falls on the back burner along with sleep. When I finally made time to focus on my wardrobe again, I felt 100 times better about myself and also realized how easy it was to update my look with just a few must-have pieces hanging in my closet. The goal is to utilize your clothing and be able to wear your looks multiple ways. Keep reading to see how to mix staple pieces to carry through to all aspects of your lifestyle needs – from a play dates, business, and after-five events.
PRINTED TANK: This black and white print tank is a great way to add a little pop to any solid basics. When picking out your shells, look for small prints that are in natural colors so they will be easy to mix and match with multiple items. If prints are intimidating, go for a solid that is flattering for your skin tone. Above, you see Molly in white skinny jeans, ready to run out the door for a play date. She looks amazing and yet this look is simple and comfortable.
BLACK BLAZER: You can see that by adding the black blazer to her printed tank and jean combo, she took her look to another level. Keep it casual with flats or dress it up by adding a classic black pump. No matter if it’s 1″-4″, just by switching up your shoes can make a big difference. The black blazer is a simple way to quickly achieve a more polished and professional image. This is a great business casual outfit that keeps you looking cool and confident for after hour events.
BLACK PANT: In no time at all, Molly changed out of her white jeans to a black pant and pumps. Now she is dressed appropriately for a more conservative office setting or job interview. When selecting the right black pant for youself, remember to be picky. And don’t forget as long as it has a flattering fit, you can always adjust the hem. The safest length hem for an everyday black pant is one you can wear with a pair of flats or heels.
LITTLE BLACK DRESS: I could go on forever about the “LBD”. It’s a game changer and my personal go-to at least once a week. After all, what’s not to love about a chic, comfortable dress you can wear after five or on a relaxed vacation with sandals and a floppy hat. The best part about this black dress modeled on Molly is that it will last multiple seasons. Honestly, I have had my knit dress for over 10 years and it has yet to lose it’s shape or color! True story! I added a stretchy black belt to Molly to cinch her waist line and add a little pop to her classic “LBD”.
GO-TO-SUIT: Finish off the look with the black blazer for the perfect black 2-piece suit ideal for a more conservative office style, presentations, or after five event. This is where you add your personal style by adding one or two of your favorite accessories to meet your lifestyle needs. What makes this suit so wonderful? For Molly and busy women in general – everything she is wearing will never fade and is washable and wrinkle-free. Now she won’t have to spend time replacing, ironing or going to the dry cleaners which saves her time and money in the long run. Because time is the most precious gift we have and time is best spent with our family.
