What is the big deal with this brand called Lipsense and why is everyone obsessing over it? When I’m in the pick-up line at my son’s pre-school I hear moms talking about Lipsense. At church in the bathroom – women talking about Lipsense, when I visited my family in upstate NY. they were all using Lipsense. Recently I was dressing a client who flew in from out of state who sells Lipsense in addition to her full time job!
What better time to try out Lipsense for the first time than at a fashion shoot. My shoot was located at my friend Gina’s home who was so in love and wore the brand that she started selling and from there, her business grew just off of her personal testimony and passion about the brand. Gina had a good amount of selection for me to play with and I had a little too much fun picking out the right shade for my complexion. (If you look closely at her hand you can see all of my favorite colors still painted on in the video above.) Also, if you like the color I selected from my shoot, it’s “Fly Girl” If you missed out on seeing the fashion shoot video, Click Here.
Here’s what I know and loved about the brand before I even gave it a try. LipSense creates an opportunity for women to work from their homes. Allowing mothers or even working women to earn extra money with a flexible schedule. After closing my brick and mortar boutique in 2015 because I could not keep up with my responsibility and schedule of my children at home, I can understand and appreciate the need of this kind of business platform.
Since the fashion shoot, I have been using Lipsense on the daily and 3 weeks later I think I finally figured it all out on how to use it correctly.
You need to read the instructions to apply: Who would have thought you would need instructions for a lipstick! However if you want it to stay on as long as possible you need to read to the end. I totally didn’t and mine would look like a hot mess by lunch until I learned to apply another coat before meals. Why do I like to learn everything the hard way?
Instructions: Start by shaking your color to make sure it is well mixed. Apply LipSense in one direction (not back and forth) to clean, dry lips. Keep lips apart and apply two more coats (for a total of 3 coats), allowing about 5 seconds to dry between each coat. Allow a full 30 seconds of drying time before applying the gloss. After applying your gloss, you can rub your lips together! Keep your LipSense going all day by applying gloss, especially before eating!
How long does it last? So LipSense is a long-lasting liquid lip color that is guaranteed to last 4-18 hours! I still can only get it to last up to 4-5 tops. I’m sure many others can go longer, I think I just mess with my lips too much. But honestly it still stays on longer than anything else I have in my collection.
Ummm…why are my lips Tingling? The tingling or burning sensation is caused by the Denatured Alcohol (cosmetic grade) in the LipSense – which serves as a blender and creates a bacteria-free environment in the tube. This tingling sensation is noticed more when a person has very dry lips, and will go away immediately once the gloss is applied. After using LipSense and the gloss for two weeks, the burning sensation should stop. Good to know there is an end in sight.
Details: It is waterproof, smudge-proof, kiss-proof, and non-drying. I love that I can kiss my little ones and my husband without the worry of making a mess. It’s also lead-free, wax-free, gluten-free, vegan, kosher, and it’s not tested on animals. LipSense is proudly made in the USA to ensure the highest standard of quality control.
How Much: If you are new to LipSense you will need to purchase the Starter Kit which includes your choice of color, the glossy gloss, and an Oops remover for $55. I definitely needed the Oops because I’m not the best at applying lipstick. After that, the individual colors are $25, or glosses for $20. More expensive than I would like but if it lasts as long as they say it does – it’s totally a deal.
My two cents: All in all I will use Lipsense again for my shoots. I had very little time to change from look to look and when dealing with designer fashions, the last thing I wanted to do was get makeup all over the clothing. I found the best place for me to apply is in my car with the AC blasting. It’s a quick dry and it’s also nice that my kids are all straped in their seats and not getting into trouble when mommy is trying to look pretty.
